YOUR GUIDE TO MEMORIAL DAY WEEKEND IN NORTH LAKE TAHOE
There’s a particular kind of magic to Memorial Day weekend in Tahoe - the moment the lake shakes off winter and fully steps into summer. Docks slip back into the water, patios fill up, beach chairs reappear, and somehow every day starts to feel like it should end with live music and a sunset over the water.
Whether you’re visiting for the long weekend or fortunate enough to call the North Shore home, these are our favorite ways to spend the unofficial start of summer.
HIT THE BEACH EARLY
Incline’s beaches and boating season officially return this weekend, and if a beach day is on the agenda, early is everything.
Holiday weekends mean limited parking, slow stretches along Highway 28, and full beaches by mid-morning. Aim to arrive before 9 a.m. — especially Saturday and Sunday. Boaters, double-check your launch reservations and inspection requirements before you head out.
WALK OR BIKE THE EAST SHORE TRAIL
Open daily and completely free, this paved three-mile path connects Incline Village to Sand Harbor with uninterrupted lake views the entire way. Often called “America’s Most Beautiful Bikeway,” it’s one of the most effortless ways to experience the lake without ever competing for beach parking.
A tip from us: Sand Harbor 's reservations are full, so biking or hiking in is your only way on to this beautiful beach.
CATCH LIVE MUSIC AT THE BEACH
IVGID's concert series returns this weekend at Ski Beach in Incline Village, where live music, mountain sunsets, and lake views all meet at once. Bring a blanket, pick up dinner nearby, and settle in for one of Tahoe’s most beloved summer traditions. Note that the venue is now Ski Beach as Incline Beach is under construction to bring our community a new beach house. Access to IVGID beaches is restricted to IVGID pass holders. [Schedule Link]
SHOP THE INCLINE VILLAGE FARMERS MARKET
Fresh produce, local goods, flowers, baked treats, coffee, and Tahoe-made everything - the farmers market has found a new home this year at Diamond Peak Ski Resort! The market is one of the easiest, most pleasant ways to ease into a Tahoe weekend. Come hungry, and plan to linger longer than you meant to. Thursdays 3 - 6PM.
SIP, CREATE, OR TRY SOMETHING NEW
Looking for something beyond beaches and boats? Tahoe Gifting Co. along with Crosby's pub and other Christmas Tree Village businesses are hosting the Pray For Sun Weekend, a series of seasonal workshops and experiences throughout the weekend — a lovely option for a rainy afternoon or a slower-paced day off the water.
EXPLORE OPENING WEEKEND AROUND THE LAKE
Running May 21 through 25, Opening Weekend on the Lake stretches from Kings Beach through Tahoe City and down the West Shore, with live music, lakefront pop-ups, food specials, and community celebrations throughout. No tickets, no planning - just show up and wander. [Schedule Link]

OUR TOP INSIDER TIP
The move this weekend is simple: start early. Morning coffee by the lake will always beat sitting in traffic.
